Collector system Esslingen

The biggest tube collector installation of the world with a gross collector area of 1.330 m² was putted into operation at the end of the year 2007 in Esslingen near Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. This installation both supports an adsorption refrigeration machine for the cooling of 27.000 m² of office space and contributes to the heating in winter.

Up to now the refrigeration machines operated with energy of gas condensing boilers and compressor waste heat. One wants to save over 500 MWh of primary energy per year and go easy on resources via the new collector system.
Even on short and cold days the installation delivers a satisfactory amount of heat energy in the field. If the gas price increases by 6% a year, the investment will amortize in less than 10 years. If there is a stronger price increase, the payback period is even shorter.
